Fiji 7s Olympic Games gold medal winning coach in Rio- Ben Ryan wants a well earned rest.
A three to six months break is on the cards for the man who mapped out Fiji’s march to a historic gold at the 31st Olympiad.
“Right now I have not decided. I don’t know yet, I’m going back to the UK for a break after celebrations in Fiji,” said Ryan as he was departing the Olympic Village for the airport.
“I don’t know whether it’s 7s or 15s.
“It’s not about money, it’s about the challenge,” he said.
Ryan said he took up the job in Fiji because he’s the type that likes to be challenged.
“There’s a few interests overseas.”
The media spotlight has been on Ryan and the team ever since they won gold a week ago.
Team manager Ropate Kauvesi says the team is very supportive in whatever the coach decides.
“All of us, the boys and me would like Ben to stay but the decision is his.
“He’s sacrificed so much even from his own pocket for these boys,” Kauvesi said.
Ben and the 7s team along with Cathy and majority of Team Fiji flew home today and will reach Fiji on Sunday.
Fiji will have a three member team of Wayne O’Conner, Leslie Copeland and James Goulding at the Closing Ceremony on Sunday night here in Rio.
